Marion Halliday

Happy, happy, HAPPY New Year greetings to you all.  To start your year off right, here is my report of what’s been going on and what’s ahead with my music.

WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON:   While I've been fortunate to play quite a number of shows since my last quarterly report, a highlight of Fall 2019 was my ‘semi-formal’ showcase at NERFA - Northeast Regional Folk Alliance.  NERFA is an annual gathering of 700 or so folk artists, promotors, DJs and other industry professionals up in Stamford Connecticut.  I was honored to be selected for a featured showcase at the event and it was a magical 3 days of music and community.  A couple weeks later I had the privilege to open for an iconic rock band out of NYC, Antigone Rising, at The Locks.  Then a few days after that I was invited to play on the stage of New York's Rockwood Music Hall as part of WFUV FM DJ John Platt's "On Your Radar" Show - here is a little snippet from that performance- so much fun to play on a stage to a full house AND to have some of my family there as well. Special thanks to friends Irene Lambrou and Meghan Cary who joined me for the evening on backing vocals alongside 'Uncle Mike' Damora on bass.

WHAT'S AHEAD:   I have only started firming up details for festivals and shows in 2020, so the information I can share right now is limited, but here is the news 'fit to print' so far:

  • January 18 - The Living Room: Yes, THIS coming Saturday night, I'll be sharing the stage with my friend and fellow songwriter Jess Graae at the coolest listening room venue in Philly. Get your tickets and come on out!
  • February 23 - City Winery: I am honored to be part of a stellar lineup of bands for the WXPN Winter Doldrums Music Fest - this all day event raises money to support suicide prevention programming.
  • May 7-Songwriter Series:  I will be part of a Nashville style in-the-round songwriter evening - more details coming soon
  • May  23- Philadelphia Folksong Society: I am excited to share an evening of music with a great friend and even greater songwriter, Roger Street Friedman - more details coming soon.

Please just keep an eye on my website or Facebook page for the latest updates on these and other shows!

NEW YEAR REFLECTION & RESOLUTION

I start this New Year- and this new decade - filled with a bewildering combination of gratitude, joy, and fear.  Maybe you feel the same way.  I have had so many gifts in my life - personally and professionally - and in particular in the last couple of years with my music.  For these, and the many friends and family who have shared them with me, I am very grateful and they give me great joy.

BUT there is also the fear of what the future holds for those I love, that are close to me, and maybe even more so, for the world around me, in the coming year. I'm sure the constant and seemingly worsening barrage of daily news contributes to this sense of trepidation. Maybe you feel this way too.  So, I've decided the only resolution I can make is to take a DEEP breath each day (each hour? each minute?), repeat over and over my gratitude/joy mantra, and focus on my commitment to live in THIS present moment only, and experience my life as honestly and kindly as I can. I'll check back with you at year-end to let you know if I was successful with this resolution.

That's it for now - thank you, as always, for the many ways you support me and my music.  Please drop me a line when you can and I hope to see your smiling face at a venue/show soon.

All the best - Marion

PS - Enjoy the free download of a song from my album this past summer  included with this email!

PPS - if you wish to support my music further, it would mean a heck of a lot if you would go to my youtube page and 'subscribe' to it - click here.  Not only do you get to see video from time to time of recent shows and other adventures, you help my enhance my profile for booking agents (they care a lot more about youtube subscriber numbers than 'likes' on Facebook apparently!)
